The little town of Cassano Irpino is located on the western slopes of Mount Serapullo, overlooking the Calore valley.
Some sources, however, claim that the Castle already existed during Norman times.
The Castle underwent several changes over the centuries and was turned into a sumptuous residence in Late Renaissance style. Many important noble families lived in the Castle through the succeeding centuries such as the Spanish Captain Garcia Cavaniglia, who purchased it in 1445. The last owners of the Castle were the Guarnieri family who ruled over Cassano from 1596 to 1806.
Damaged by the earthquake of 1980, today we can only see the ruins of a quadrangular Tower and most of perimetral walls.
