Located in the Calore valley, it derives its name probably from a Frankish fortress.
In the first half of the 12th century, lord of the Castle was a certain Landolfo.
Over the centuries the castle has passed through many hands, from della Leonessa Family to della Marra and on to the notorious de Naccarelli Family.
Probably built during the Norman period, the della Marra family transformed the Castle into a splendid Renaissance palace around the middle of the 16th century.
The Castle was completely demolished between 1870 and 1968 for the construction of Municipal square.
