The little town of Chiusano San Domenico is located on the slopes of Mount Tuoro that separates the valley of Sabato River from that of the Calore.
The first written mention of Chiusano dates back to 1020, at that time the fief belonged to Duchy of Benevento. Built in the end of the 10th century, the Castle was already abandoned in 1278. Chiusano belonged in this period to the members of the noble family de Tufo. The King Federico II used the castle as a prison and imprisoned a certain Obizzo Valvo in the Dungeon.
Furthermore, many earthquakes caused severe damage to the Castle moreover, most of the Castle was pulled down and only part of the basement survives.
