Nusco is located on the slope of a Mount at 910 metres above sea level in the valley of Ofanto and Calore rivers.
The hamlet was founded during the Lombard domination, it was first recorded in 1093. Over the years, the Castle belonged to several aristocratic families among them Guglielmo, who was the last duke of Puglia, king Manfredi, De Aquino, Giamvilla, De Aczia, Caracciolo and finally it was bought by the Imperiale family whose dynasty held the feud from 1676 to 1806.
The Lombard fortress was unfortunately abandoned in the first half of the 15th century and much of the Castle was pulled down in order to construct new buildings.
Actually we can see only the remains of its curtain wall.
