The first mention of a Castle in Capriglia goes back to the 10th century. During its long history the Castle has been owned by several lords, among them Ottimo Caracciolo, Niccolò d'Aquino and Maddaloni Diomede Carafa. Located in an important strategic position, it protected the communication routes between Avellino and Benevento.
In the 16th century, the Carafa family built a palace on the remains of that medieval Castle.
