Though historical facts are vague, we know that the Roman presence is attested by numerous finds.
The first mention of Marzano dates back to late medieval Times. Over the centuries, the rule of Marzano has passed through many hands. In 1541 the fief was purchased by the Sanseverino family and in 1632 it passed to the Lancellotti family.
Marzano Tower's location was originally chosen because it afforded views in every direction, so that local inhabitants would have early warning of an attack.
There has been a fortified tower on this site since the second half of the 14th century. Made of stone and mortar, the cylindrical Tower is the masterpiece of architecture of its time. According to tradition, the noble Pandolto, father of Giusulfo de Morezzano (avenger of the Kingdom of Naples), took up residence in the Tower.
The walls are 3,20 m thick and 10,50 m high. The tower has two floors and was capped on all sides with merlons.
