In Poppano, a suburb of the village San Mango sul Calore, was built a Castle that was changed into a rural residence in the seventeenth-eighteenth century.
There is a documentary evidence that a Norman castle was in existence here in the early 12th century.
The Castle, of which unfortunately nothing remains, was destroyed by the terrible earthquake in 1980 like the village of San Mango. Rather than rebuild or replace the ruined castle they chose to build a beautiful church on its site.
