The village of Torre le Nocelle rises 430 m above sea level on a hill overlooking the left side of the Calore river. A Norman Tower, part of a 18th century Palace, was left standing, and still remains, though much altered.
The Tower overlooks the surrounding valley and offers a stunning view of the surrounding landscape. It was built to protect and control Torre Le Nocelle and survives largely intact from the Norman period.
Throughout its long history, this Tower has provided its users with an advantage in surveying defensive positions and obtaining a better view of the battlefield.
Over the centuries, ownership of the fief passed from hand to hand - Roberto d'Angiò, Giovanni Borgia d'Aragona and Consalvo de Cordova. In the second half of the 17th century, Torre la Nocelle passed to the de Tocco family. The fief remained in the possession of the de Tocco family until 1806.
The Tower has also been used as a residence and is now in private hands.
