Rising up
to a height of 453 m, the
Castle dominates the
surrounding countryside and the
Ufita valley.
Built
during the Lombard
domination, d'Aquino
Castle has had various
owners over the years among them
a nobleman called Landolfo
d'Aquino who acquired it in
1229. The Castle is
named after its 13th century
owner, and it served as a symbol
of his power.
Since its
construction in the
12th
century, the Castle has
undergone structural changes with
many improvements to the
fortifications of the Castle so
it would be able to withstand any
attack by an invader.
D'Aquino
Castle has survived the
passage of time and to this day
stands proudly as a monument to
the works of those men of the
12th century. Besides being a
wonderful place to explore, the
Castle also houses a
fascinatingAntiquarium
Museum.
The Castle
houses a library and the
Antiquarium
museum.
The Museum
has a large collection
of prehistoric
antiquities; in the
Roman
period section we
can find the head of a
statue found in the
Castle garden dating to
the first century AD; in
the modern section there
are several postcards
dating from 1900 to
around 1925 and a
documentary exhibition
of priest
Pietro
Paolo Parzanese.
